Two Luxemburg-Casco H.S. students named National Merit Semifinalists
LUXEMBURG, Wis. – Two Luxemburg-Casco High School students, Cady Bevins and Hudson Thiry, have been named as Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The pair of Spartans now will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 6,870 National Merit Scholarships, worth nearly $26 million in totality, that will be offered next spring.
More than 1.3 million juniors in approximately 21,000 high schools entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of 16,000-plus Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
Cady Bevins is the daughter of Jamey and Stacey Bevins of Luxemburg. Hudson Thiry is the son of Jason and Catrina Thiry of
Luxemburg.
“Academic excellence is one of the pillars of the Luxemburg-Casco educational experience,” says Tyson Tlachac, L-C High School principal. “We congratulate Cady and Hudson for being among the top performers in the entire United States, and look forward to supporting them as they take the next steps in the National Merit Scholarship Program.”
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. These include submission of an essay and a detailed scholarship application in conjunction with a high school official; information within the application is the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors/awards received.
Students who advance to the Finalist level will be notified in February 2025. The National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be
announced in four nationwide press releases from April through July of next year.
