Mark Jandrin named recipient of 2026 L-C Distinguished Alumni Award

Community service includes three-plus decades as deputy sheriff, high school game official

LUXEMBURG, Wis. – Mark Jandrin, a 1987 graduate of Luxemburg-Casco High School, is the recipient of the 2026 Luxemburg-Casco School District Distinguished Alumni Award. He has served the local community, both professionally and personally, for more than three decades.

The Luxemburg-Casco School District annually recognizes a past graduate at its graduation ceremony. Among the criteria in selection of the Distinguished Alumni Award are achievements in high school or beyond, community service and the ability to serve as an inspiration to L-C students. The 2026 commencement will be held May 20.

“Mark’s visible passion for this community is a great example for our graduates to emulate,” says Principal Tyson Tlachac.

“His commitment to doing what is right is both honorable and noteworthy. Most everyone is familiar with him as both a deputy sheriff and high school game official, and recognizes Mark as a pillar of our community. He is an excellent choice for this award.”

Jandrin last year concluded a 34-year career in local law enforcement, when he retired as a deputy with the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department. Over the course of his three-plus decades with the department, he handled many of its non-supervisory roles, even filling in as the school resource officer at L-C.

He first joined the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department on a part-time basis in January 1991, when several officers in the military reserves were called to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. He became a full-time officer the following year.

His professional work in the community also includes 15 years as a driver for the Luxemburg Rescue Squad.

While attending Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), from which he received a degree in police science in 1989, he worked part-time as a clerk at the 54 Mini Mart in Luxemburg. “It was here where I was taught the importance of treating others how you’d want to be treated from my boss, Ross Tlachac, who was so good with all the customers,” says Jandrin.

Following his graduation from NWTC and before he began his law-enforcement career, Jandrin worked for Heraly’s Carpentry. “Not knowing a single thing about the job, I quickly learned the value of hard work from Chuck Heraly, who soon became one of my closest friends,” he says.

Jandrin’s service to the community also consists of a 31-year career as a high school sports official of basketball, baseball, softball and football games. Shortly after his graduation from L-C, he was asked to officiate JV basketball at the school. He worked his way up to doing varsity games, eventually receiving postseason assignments and being chosen to officiate at the state basketball tournament by 2005.

He began as a baseball and softball umpire after a few years as a basketball official. He later was convinced by a mentor to also become a football official. He went on to referee/umpire at multiple state tournaments, and in 2024 was selected to the Green Bay Officials Association Hall of Fame.

“It just goes to show what can happen if you’re passionate about something and enjoy what you’re doing while doing it,” Jandrin says of his career as a game official.

Jandrin himself was a three-sport athlete at Luxemburg-Casco, playing varsity football, baseball and basketball. After graduation, he played summer baseball for the Casco A’s.

For the past 15 years, he has been a member of the Casco Lions Club, following in the footsteps of his late father, Russ, who was passionate about the club. “It was one of the best decisions I ever made to join the Casco Lions,” Jandrin says. “While it can be very time-consuming, it is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.”

He and his wife of 33 years, Tracey (a 1988 L-C grad), have two sons, Jacob (wife: Hailee) and Mitchell, along with a granddaughter, Livvy. Mitchell just completed his first season as head coach of the L-C boys basketball team after previously serving as an assistant coach.

Jandrin enjoys watching and participating in sports, particularly golf and anything related to officiating.

John Shefchik, a 1962 Luxemburg High School graduate, was the 2025 winner of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
