Business & Education Partnerships
Business Partnerships
The Luxemburg-Casco School District values the partnerships with local businesses and believe they have the potential to enrich the educational experience, prepare students for the workforce, and strengthen the ties between our schools and the communities around us. These collaborations are a win-win for the district and businesses involved and help bridge the gap between education and the real world.
Education Partnerships
The Luxemburg-Casco School District strongly believes the partnerships between the district and higher education institutions enhance the quality of education, provide valuable resources and expertise, and foster collaboration to better prepare our students for the challenges of higher education and the workforce. We also believe these partnerships are mutually beneficial and support the overall educational goals of the district and our educational partners.

“The district believes in the importance of providing students with a wide range of educational choices. Our career-readiness programs offer students the opportunity to identify, or confirm, a career path that matches their interests,” says Superintendent Glenn Schlender. “Ahnapee Automotive is designed for those students with a mechanical aptitude, who enjoy diagnosing and solving automotive challenges.
“The business community has told us that there is a huge need for highly trained automotive technicians, and that those technicians can earn lucrative salaries in a very broad market.”
To receive the one-year AMT technical diploma, students must complete 26 credits in courses such as Transportation Service Operations, Auto Service Operations, Brake Systems, Steering & Suspension Systems, Intro to Electrical Systems, Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Advanced Chassis Systems and Transportation Welding.
While some time is spent in the classroom, the majority of each course is conducted in the automotive shop. A former local automotive technician is the on-site instructor on behalf of NWTC, receiving assistance from L-C educators and staff.
The expanded and upgraded Automotive Shop on the northeast corner of the high school building, which opened in August 2020, has four fully equipped automotive bays with new lifts; a tire machine and balancer; equipment to perform brake maintenance; a set of tools for each station; and a new automotive lab with exhaust system.
L-C students participating in Ahnapee Automotive, one of roughly 20 such programs in the state of Wisconsin, can become certified by the ASE Education Foundation (formerly the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation) for Maintenance and Light Repair Program Standards. Holders of the certification can choose to work immediately in the automotive industry, pursue additional education, or do both.
Automotive Maintenance Technicians diagnose vehicle malfunctions, perform basic appropriate repairs, and recommend/conduct regular vehicle maintenance. Other related careers include Automotive Electronics Specialist, Brake Specialist, Engine Repair Specialist, and Steering, Suspension and Alignment Specialist.
Students involved in the program have the chance to receive on-the-job training through employment at area dealerships while still in high school as part of the Ahnapee Regional Youth Apprenticeship program. They also are paid and can earn a state-issued skills certificate.
One- or two-year apprenticeships are available in 16 different career clusters, including Transportation, Distribution & Logistics, with program oversight by an on-site director located within the high school. The apprenticeship program provides students with the opportunity to confirm that their intended post-secondary field of study is the right choice for them through authentic experiences. It also offers the chance for career exploration to undecided students.

Ahnapee Diesel
Ahnapee Diesel is the first credit-bearing, diesel-only high school education program in Wisconsin and one of roughly 20 such programs nationwide.
Through the program, students in their junior and senior years are provided with the opportunity to earn college credits while also receiving credit towards high school graduation through this partnership with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC).
Upon successful completion of NWTC’s Diesel Maintenance Technician (DMT) curriculum while in high school, students attain a one-year technical diploma. Following graduation from high school, students can choose to pursue a technical diploma as a Diesel Heavy Equipment Technician or a Diesel Medium & Heavy Truck Technician. Associate degrees in either Diesel Heavy Equipment Technology or Diesel Medium & Heavy Truck Technology also are possible student pathways.
The required 26 credits include courses such as Transportation Welding 1 & 2, Diesel Lab Operations, Intro to Diesel Mechanics, Intro to Electrical Systems, Diesel Heavy Duty Electrical 1 & 2, Chassis Sub-Systems, Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems, and Engine Sub-Systems.
Ahnapee Diesel is made possible by meaningful partnerships with area companies and the regional transportation industry. Supporters of Ahnapee Diesel include Packer City International Trucks, America’s Service Line, Master Fleet, Kinnard Farms, Kriete Truck Center, Paper Transport Inc., Roland Machinery, Komatsu, Bobcat Plus, CSM Companies (aka Wisconsin Kenworth), Cummins Sales & Service, Debroux Custom Work, Dorner Inc., Ducat Trucking, Joski Trucking, Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy, Peters Concrete, Rio Creek Feed Mill, Service Motor Company, Somerville Architects and WEL Companies.
More than $425,000 in combined financial and in-kind contributions, including a variety of diesel equipment, was donated to Ahnapee Diesel to help get the program off the ground at its outset in the 2021-22 school year.
The program is a consortium of area schools including Luxemburg-Casco, Denmark and Kewaunee.
“We see the value in building a future workforce of diesel maintenance technicians, and the Luxemburg-Casco program will go a long way in doing that,” says Mark Adams, vice president at Packer City International Trucks. “We were impressed with the forethought and vision in putting this program together and are excited about the partnership.”
America’s Service Line, an American Foods Group company, also was a major donor to the program. “In a world where a college education seems to be the only way of life, we need to remember some people just aren’t cut from that cloth,” says David Geise, fleet maintenance director at America’s Service Line. “These people come out of high school with some asking, ‘Now what?’ Teaching the basics of the mechanical trades is natural as it usually will pique their interest and set them up in a trade that can supply a better income than a lot of college educations. We need more people in our industry, and we need to get back to the high schools to quite literally farm them.”
Nearly 20 local and transportation-based companies have donated to the L-C diesel program. These also include Master Fleet, Kinnard Farms, Kriete Truck Center, Somerville Architects, Rio Creek Feedmill, WEL Companies, CSM Companies (aka Wisconsin Kenworth), DeBroux Custom Work, Pagels Ponderosa Dairy, Paper Transport Inc., Peters Concrete, Ducat Trucking, Dorner Inc., Service Motor Company, Roland Machinery Co., Joski Trucking, and Cummins Sales & Service.
“With the help of many area companies who have been willing to form strong partnerships with L-C, we are able to create a workspace mirroring that of a professional diesel mechanic,” says Mike Snowberry, the district’s director of learning services who is guiding the program’s creation. “Our students will have quality instruction and fully equipped, professional-quality toolboxes, along with the new facilities. Almost all of the students in the diesel program have been placed in the Ahnapee Youth Apprenticeship program with our partner businesses. We believe that the L-C diesel program will be a win-win for our students and the local business community.”

Questions?
Bellin College Healthcare Academy
Beginning in August 2022, Luxemburg-Casco School District began collaborating with Bellin College to offer high school students new curriculum that leads to a career pathway in healthcare, the Bellin College Healthcare Academy.
Initial exploratory coursework rotates between the three participating high schools, Luxemburg-Casco, Denmark, and Kewaunee. This coursework will offer students the opportunity to affirm their interest in the healthcare field through study and job shadow opportunities. These classes include Introduction to Healthcare, Medical Terminology, Customer Service in Healthcare, Health Communication and Nursing Assistant. Junior and senior year classes in the Academy provide students the opportunity to participate in college science courses on the Bellin campus, including Anatomy & Physiology and Chemistry.
Paid internship opportunities are also available to students from this point forward.
Students who complete the Bellin College Healthcare Academy coursework while in high school will have the opportunity to earn up to 42 college credits by graduation and have the potential to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Bellin College after only two additional years of post-secondary study. Students essentially will have completed the entire first year of study at Bellin College while in high school.
UWGB Rising Phoenix
The Rising Phoenix Early College High School Program is an innovative collaboration between the consortium high schools of Algoma, Kewaunee, and Luxemburg-Casco with UW-Green Bay to provide promising high school students an opportunity to get a head start on college by earning their high school diploma and a two-year Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree. Students who participate in this program will have the opportunity to take courses at their high school, on the UW-Green Bay campus, or virtually through UW-Green Bay.
Students apply to the Rising Phoenix program in the second semester of their sophomore year. An official application and recommendation process is required for this program. During a student’s junior and senior year, they will be enrolled in a combination of courses through LCHS and through UWGB; a student’s schedule will vary depending on the pathway they wish to follow. Students in the Rising Phoenix program will work individually with their school counselor and a Student Success Coach through UWGB to have academic support and advising assistance on course selection, major/career exploration, and postsecondary transition planning senior year to graduation.
Upon completion of high school and the program, students will have earned up to 60 college credits in general education courses through UWGB towards an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree. Students are not required to earn the full 60 credits, but will tailor their educational experience to what best fits their long-term goals. Students can continue their education at UW-Green Bay to earn a Bachelor’s Degree or transfer to another 4-year college or university.
