Influenza Immunization Clinic - 10/10/17

posted Sep 13, 2017, 9:26 AM by Scott Waldow   [ updated Sep 13, 2017, 9:28 AM ]

Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory virus that affects our communities each year.  Flu season runs from October through May.  This virus can live on hard surfaces and can be spread easily through coughing and sneezing.  Symptoms of influenza include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, and tiredness. In certain circumstances influenza can become life threatening.

To protect the children within our community, the Kewaunee County Health Department will hold an influenza immunization clinic at your child’s school on: Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Injectable vaccine will be available while supplies last. Please note that Flumist (the nasal vaccine) has been removed from the market due to efficacy issues.

If you have a student within the district and you want your child to receive the required vaccine at school during the course of the school day, please:

  • Read the enclosed Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) carefully. The VIS explains why people should get this vaccine, who should delay getting it and who should not get it at all.
  • Sign and return the enclosed consent form to your child’s school by: Monday, October 9, 2017.

For parents who wish to be present while their child is vaccinated, an after-school clinic will be held in the Intermediate School from 3:15 to 4:30.  Parents may bring any child (including siblings who are not yet school age) to receive a free flu vaccine at this time.  Adult Influenza shots will also be available after school at the cost of $30. Vaccine Information Sheets and consent forms will be available at the school. You may fill one out in advance; but then please bring it with you to the after-school clinic.

If you have any questions about this school immunization clinic, please call Cindy at

920-388-7160.
